You can get a switchbox from Tandy, Dick Smith, Harvey Norman, Retravison etc etc
Hi all,
TV cabling is not my forte as such... so hoping some folk can help me or point me in the right direction...
In the kids room, we currently have a DVD player and a set top box (not digital) so every time Morgan wants to watch Hi-5 or they want to watch ABC kids programs on TV I need to unplug the RCA cables (red, Yellow, White) and plug those into the Set top box.
My question is:
Is there a splitter or something that will allow me to not have to keep on removing the cables out the back of each and swapping between the two units? I have a fairly old panasonic TV which is great for their room with just the yellow and white coming from the back and then the red/white/yellow going into one of those devices.
I know you can get Y splitters for PC hardware just not sure if you can get them for AV stuff?
If there's one RCA cable that plugs into the back of the TV that has capabilities for plugging into both the set top box and dvd player that'd be great (so effectively 2 yellow/white/red terminating off the tv end)- just don't know what it's called to search for it *lol* !
Hope that made sense
Thanks
Lp

Thanks for that. I should have twigged as I have one for my PC that I use to use eeeeooooons ago - but can't justify the cost of $30.00 upwards right now.
I don't need to run the set top box or the dvd player at the same time so not sure if that will make a difference because I think the cable if it exists would be the cheaper option.
Much appreciate the reply... will give folk at Jaycar a call

Switches are of the order of $5 from some of the discount stores.

really - I like the sound of that. Bargain stores as in your $2 type shop flavours?
I paid a bit more than $30 for mine but in addition to having a remote control (yep, I'm lazy!) it supports S-Video, component video and SPDIF audio (not important for you perhaps but at least you know it's there if you want it lol.
i'm all for bargains to be honest! I'll have to sus them out and see. Don't really care for the remote as it's the kids room and we have our own 'grown up' room with too many remotes one cares for (well me anyway - remotes must be a bloke thing - hahah)... Morgan is only 2 and Ethan is a little over
7 months so they are not into remotes (yet)...
appreciate all the replies...
Cheers

Have you checked the back of your DVD player or set top box for a passthrough?? Many modern dvd players allow you to daisychain devices - i.e. you plug your set top box into the DVD player, and the DVD player into the TV, so that you can view both devices on teh TV. Take a look at the back of the DVD player and see if there is anythign labelled "Audio/Video Input" or somethign similar....
Hi Mike,
there actually is *lol* - stupid woman!!
I'll get hubby to take a look at it. Like I said - this area ain't my expertise
Cheers
