    Is it possible??

    G'Day All,

Can anybody tell me if you can get normal free to air TV on a laptop with wireless internet modem at the same time as the tv at home??

I know you can go to the channels web site and watch "catch up" shows.

Im taking two weeks off work and taking the camper up north for a week.

I like getting away but might take my work Laptop with......just in case the weather turns to crap + we have been sucked into Master Chef on ten

    Regards & Thanks
    Andrew

Your cheapest option would be to get a usb TV tuner(under a $100) for the laptop
I hate to think of the costs on wireless data if you wanted to watch tv shows

USB tuner would be the go... costs nothing as it is effectively a TV receiver plugged into your PC. It does not require a network connection as it simply picks up TV signal not internet. Needs a good antenna and some (like EyeTV) have options for external antenna.

However, if you're outa TV range it's not gonna help (but you'd probably be outa net range as well)

I'd say, give up on the idea. Get bored once in a while.... clears the mind or brews some great (or evil) ideas... read a book (which might be worse than tele)... enjoy the quiet...

While I was in the Pay TV industry (on the hardware side) I knew this bloke who'd go bush in his 'cruiser, caravan and a satellite dish, decoder (we used to make them) so he could watch pay TV while 'outdoors'. Not my enamelled cup of billy tea but that was HIS idea of goin' bush. Mine was, and still is, simple and basic without the mod cons we have at home -- why bother going away if you're gonna take your house with ya. I don't even have a camping fridge or a gas lantern... I like basics and do like to get 'bored' once in a while.

ANYWAY, there are a lot of TV tuners on the market, but I'd suggest you look at one that has external antenna connection and stable software. Test it before you go away. Elgato EyeTV is one of the few that work well with Macs, hence the reference.

Probably best idea as the usb tuners need a full size antenna to get any reception, more so if you are out bush or other remote area's.
