    Firefox Upgrades and Favourites

I currently run Firefox 2.0 and it works a treat. Some time back I upgraded to Firefox 3.0.10 but it reverted my favourites back to some mysterious earlier version and half of my current favourites were missing.

I reverted back to Firefox 2, all my favourites came back and I stayed that way for some time.

Recently I have been getting popups saying firefox 2 is no longer supported and I should update to firefox 3.0.10. They became annoying so I upgraded this morning. Same thing happened - favourites reverted back to some version I had about a year ago - so I have reinstalled version 2.0 and everything is sweet.

So, anyone know why when I update firefox it doesn't take my favourites with it and goes back to some ancient version.

    Thanks

You must have 2 versions of your bookmarks file on your drive. One version of firefox picks up (or imports) one version of the bookmarks, the other version of firefox picks up (or imports) the other bookmark file.

Try searching you drive for "bookmarks.html", I am sure you will find two copies of it.

I did a search and only found one file - and that was last modified in 2006 - so I guess the system has them embedded somewhere else

Firefox 2.0 keeps it bookmarks in the file "bookmarks.html" I can't explain why it has a 'modified' attribute of 2006. Are you sure you are looking at the most recent version of that file?

Anyway, you are right, it seems firefox 3 has changed the way it handles bookmarks. They are no longer in "bookmarks.html"

Does this help any Understanding How and Where Firefox 3 Bookmarks are Saved?

Thanks I will follow that link up - I just used the standard XP search of C drive and it only came up with one file.

    Cheers

OK - just did an upgrade to Firefox 3.5 and the same thing happened - my bookmarks reverted to a set about 2 years old.

This is where the correct book marks are kept
    file:///C:/Documents%20and%20Settings/Garry/Application%20Data/Mozilla/Firefox/Profiles/l3sjygg9.default/bookmarks.html

As well the backups are correct.

Any ideas where Firefox 3.5 looks for its bookmarks. I cannot find any other bookmarks.html files on my system.

    Thanks

When troubleshooting PC problems this is normally the method I use:

I have been searching for the relevant file for a couple of hours without any luck - but as always there is more than one way to skin a cat.

I went into bookmarks edit and deleted all the old bookmarks - I then imported my proper book marks from the file I listed above. Works until the next upgrade I guess - still have no idea where Firefox 3.5 keeps its bookmarks.
