    AVG web protection

Today I am having trouble following favourites and links within AULRO and other sites. I believe it has to do with AVG Internet Security. I am running AVG 8.5 and Mozilla Firefox 3.0.1 over a cable internet connection.

When I ask for a known location the I get the page not found screen and the address bar shows a search string starting with AVG with AULRO somewhere near the end. It seems to be an AVG site which validates the address of the chosen sites.

The only way I can get most pages is to type the address into the field which works about 80% of the time.

    What is happening?

How do I solve the problem?

    Diana

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.

Seems O.K today so I guess it will remain one of those mysteries of the ether!

Bit odd me posting here seeing as how I am a PC neanderthal but I am using Vista with AVG 8.5 and I have noticed recently just how slow using this site has become. It is onerous changing threads or pages as it seems to take a very long time to put the new one up.

Doesn't happen on any other sites which I frequent though - just here.

OK the problem is back and on numerous sites here is an example.

    "h_t_t_p_://avg.urlseek.vmn.net/search.php'tbn=avg&lg=us&type=dns&q=http%3A%2F%2F9 00club.19.forumer.com%2Findex.php"

when the site I wanted was:

"h_t_t_p_://900club.19.forumer.com/index.php" (The bold & underscore _ spaces added by me)

and this is the message in the box:

    Address Not Found

Firefox can't find the server at avg.urlseek.vmn.net.

The browser could not find the host server for the provided address.

    Any ideas?

Are you using a wireless network router/ modem?

If you have 2 firewalls enabled it can cause problems like this.

I posted a similar problem a few months ago and was advised to disable all firewalls except in the network router.
I get messages all the time that my computer may be at risk , but have had no problems with intrusions.
I am running Vista Home Basic +SP2 , Firefox, and Trend Internet Security Pro.

    Regards Philip A
However I am having another problem with both my computers that Firefox crashes ONLY on AULRO.
I wonder if AULRO pings to see whether the sender is a DOS, as I have no answer to pings enabled.

    Regards Philip A

You could be correct, the problem only started after I upgraded to AVG 8.5 and so now I do have the router firewall and the AVG however it is only intermittent so I may persevere for a while.

You may have a problem with your DNS (Domain Name Server), does this help?

    To disable AVG redirection errors

    DNS Cache

You may need to flush your DNS cache.

    Did that solve your problem?

By default, I disable the link scanner on AVG 8.5.
