Hi,
I've had the 13" 160 gig black one for 18 months now. Just great. Totally reliable.
Came loaded with nearly everything. You might want to consider Office for Mac, but you'd only need the student vers.
Current equivalent with ali case is $1899. What they can do with an iPhone is amazing.
cheers, DL
Wont a new mac book have all the wireless built in?
Yep, has Airport built in. Picks up networks all over the place when out and about.
At home I use Airport Extreme which is good for over 100m, haven't tried to see what the full range is.
The newer Airport Extremes have a 1tb hard drive built in that Time Machine can use as a back up automatically. Time Machine is a spin out the first time you use it and it comes loaded on Macbooks as well.
cheers, DL
Firstly, if your pc is running hot check that it doesn't have a process that has gone crazy in task manager. Maybe you've somehow scored something undesireable (like a virus checker) :o
Anyway, I'm confused. When you say your wireless thingy, do you mean a 3g modem, or just a wireless receiver. All the macs have built in wireless so you can throw away your wifi card.
If it's a 3g wireless modem then check but most of them should have mac drivers. These days.
The aluminium macbooks are great. They have just dropped the prices on them and they represent reasonable value (for what they are) at the moment.
All your PC problems will disappear. :D Don't listen to anyone on here telling you not to buy one unless they have used one recently for a reasonable period of time. (flame suit on) People that haven't used them are often critical but 95% of people that use one really like them. (the 5% is for Drivesafe).
To give you an idea, all the pc support people I know that have macs themselves freely admit that if their companies adopted them they would be out of work. :o
Yea 3G wireless card:)
Nothing has gone crazy the CPU does nothing at idle, but work through some pics on photobucket or the like and it cooks
Who is the 3g with? I'm sure at least Optus and Telstra support macs. I'm sure the others would as well...if they want to sell the iphone.
If the computer is cooking then it does sound like some kind of cooling failure which means a fan or blocked vent (as mentioned). It probably can be fixed.. but at what cost?
Now you all know how much I love Apple :p However it should be said that like all manufacturers they have HW faults from time to time and laptops are expensive to fix. I would suggest you buy apple care (extended warranty) with your laptop (or any laptop for that matter). As a bonus, if you buy Applecare you get really good unlimited phone support where you talk to real Australians. :)
It is very pricey but can usually be bought from Ebay much cheaper so that may be worth a try.
Its Telstra 3G
