    Thanks Mike,

    Interesting program.

I am generally not a big fan of these sorts of programs -primarily because if you do not have a good understanding of what is being changed in the registry - you are playing with fire.

I like the fact this gives you very clear vision of what it believes is wrong.

I see it will restore previous repairs - but that will need windows running to achieve successfully. Pity it doesn't allow a full registy backup before hand.

I can see it being a useful tool for many - I'd just caution that NO registry editing tool is 100% risk free - even if this one looks pretty good.

    Cheers,

A little trick I learn't when the other Cleaner programs I tried, failed & crashed my computer, was to do the following....

Start the XP version computer in Safe mode /go to/ all programs / Accessories / restore ... Select a time prior to installing the program or the previous day and all will be normal again

Thanks Mike - I'm well aware how to recover a corrupted registry on a windows machine - I work in the industry - but for non technical users - if it wont boot into safe mode - and you have no understanding of how to use the recovery console or access the file system through other means ( As well as know what to do when you get there) - you are pooched.

My point is only that if you edit the registry - whether it is manually or through any of these programs - it CAN go very pear shaped. So prudent to have a full backup.

I think that program looks like a good one - but to me it is wise to understand what it is about to do before you press that "fix my computer" button.

    Another question.....

I have installed the Glary Utilities program which includes heaps of additional functions to clean up computers.

The program has 'spyware & adware' cleanup. Would this be a better program than 'Spybot' & 'Malwarebytes - Anti Malware'?

I run these to cleanup and remove any malware and I would like to eliminate duplicate function programs as much as possible.

Dunno .... I'm only using The free version of "Glarysoft Registry Repair .. version 2.4" ... It doesn't have those tools available

Maybe Bytemrk or others, could advise ...

    G'day Lyndon,

I haven't used the Glary tool either. That said.. I wouldn't be in such a rush to remove duplicate programs when it comes to spyware.

I'd agree that if you have these tools running resident all the time ( running spybot tea timer etc.) - its probably a bad thing.. but if you only use them as a clean up - I'd happily keep both.

I am yet to find 1 anti spyware product that does it all 100%. The two that you mention are pretty good, but I have also seen Spybot miss things that are picked up by Malwarebytes and visa versa.

If you find that Glary Utilities does seem to get everything - please let us know - I'm sure we would all like to know..

Sorry Lewy.... it looks like we hijacked your thread.... maybe this would be a good topic for a seperate thread..

How are you going with the Word 2007 issue?
