    Exactly... you buy a PC if you enjoy tinkering. People that buy a mac generally have better things to do with their time!

    Well... I know what you're saying, but so far as I'm aware - apart from the items you have mentioned all the boards and parts are very much custom because they are built into apples award winning enclosures. Apple lead the computer world in industrial design.

    If you were right that they were filled with generic components then they would be cheaper to repair than they are! Not that I've ever had one repaired, but I know it does happen.

    And yes they do usually come at a premium price, but you do get industrial design which is second to none and should be factored in.

    I used to look after about 200 computers, about 10 of them were macs.
    Calls to fix a mac always made me nervous, cause I hardly ever had to do anything to them, and the operating systems changed faster than I could get experience with them.
    PCs on the other hand - dead easy, always working on them. (Sounds like some of the older landrovers I read about here)
    A couple of the staff were mac experts and could usually perform some miracle on them if I couldn't sort it.
    They are just a 'bit different'. (yep, the mac staff and the computers)

    Seriously though, I work with computers all day long, Its all I've ever done. When I come home I don't want to stuff around. I just want to know what I can open the lid on my MacBook Pro and everything just works.

    Think about how much time you've spent trying to make something work on a computer... oh my god. My life is worth more than that.

    That's exactly how I feel about it.

    I bought a new Mac on Friday, and with about 3 hours work I had everything installed, and all our data, accounts recreated and preferences installed for my both my wife's and my account. Apple also supply a thing called "migration assistant" which moves everything to your new computer in less than an hour usually. I didn't use that as I wanted a fresh start.

    I am now typing happily on it and it has settled into family life. I think I'll find a few more things but that's pretty much it. How many people with windows could say they could do that?

    quite a few actually 

    that works quite well in windows.

    In this post here I was authorised to make the following statement in regards to Apples operating system and viruses.

    "There are currently no viruses or malware threats for currently patched Snow Leopard in the wild. Nor have there ever been any large scale malware or virus attacks on OS X since it's release apart from one Trojan only found in pirated copies of iWork."



    I have run mac's for 4 years now and have never used any anti virus software. I don't know any other Mac user that has except for those that use macs in Microsoft environments where the AV software on the macs is to stop them passing on Microsoft viruses.

    They must have improved things then because whenever I used to help people with it there was a battle to find all the fragments of data spread through out the program, system, and user directories.

    Maybe its just me but really if the user doesnt stuff around with a PC then it wont go wrong. The laptop Im using now is XP and ive had it maybe 2+ years. New, out of the box and its never went wrong, it just works.

    I have a windows7 pc, upgraded from Windows XP and it just worked and still it just works. Show me faulty PC and I'll show you a user that tinkers, oh and don't blame the PC hardware because as I just mentioned it's Intel based, just like the apple copied, sorry, ermmm designed.

    Apple are based on an intigrated motherboards which may or may not,(I've never looked into it) be built specially for the apples, but they ARE intel boards,(same brand as my PC) dual and quad core CPU's the same as my PC, same RAM, same hard drives, same NIC, same cd/dvd drives, different case though.

    Well there is design and asthetics, design is fine,(see intel) asthetics, I'll leave that to the girls.


    I mentioned 10k hard drives and USB3 earlier not because apple users don't know what it is because they are not technical users but they are, (as far as I know) unavailable on the apple but are on the PC.
    try how's that for design
