DELL_WIRELESS-5530-HSPA mini 3G card
I bought this card for my Dell D820 laptop. Installed the hardware, downloaded the driver package from the Dell website, and then ran into problems. The Dell installation program says the install is "unauthorised". When it is first run it lists the Dell computers this card is meant for, the D820 isn't on tha list so I guess that is why it won't install. Can anyone think of away around this? The installation package doesn't seem to extract individual files anywhere so I can't just pick the driver and use it. As far as I can see there is no reason why this card won't work on my laptop apart from it not being on the list.

Er AMD vs Intel issue? ie card works with Intel but not AMD or vice versa?
One of the only things I can think of.

This is the installation files first popup.

And this is the error.
I's very annoying but I don't think it's chipset related.

The answer might be obsolescence - the D820 specs say it was built for the EVDO/CDMA network, which was superseded by the HSDPA or 3G network. The 5530 card is a HSDPA ( Which is good - don't throw it away....)
Solution: Dell may have written an update for the D820 that updates the firmware so it can do a HSDPA WWAN.
or
The 5530 card is a rebranded ericsson device - there may be a stand alone connection manager that could do the job.
It takes a lot of looking and reading up - it took me weeks to find how to run another brand of 3G card without it's own software. I ended up using the bigpond connection manager - looks weird when I use an optus simcard, but it works fine.

I did get a Sony Erricson connection manager, but because the drivers aren't loaded it can't see the card. Might do a hunt for a driver for the card itself as you suggested.

Couldn't find a workable driver for this card so have decided to get a 5520 card instead. I have already checked and the Dell driver is authorised for the D820. Now to find one for the right price.
Anyone want a 5530 card? Going cheap.
