    Blackberry Curve e-mail problem

    My wife has just purchased a Blackberry Curve 8520 on a Vodafone plan, which includes e-mail and data. It appears to be working OK on everything but the e-mail. (she does NOT use the Blackberry Enterprise Server - business only).

    Vodafone provide a "mobileemail" service which you set up with a new address, and this works fine with no problems - BUT, she should also be able to add her personal e-mail address from her normal ISP account. (netspace). We have tried setting it up both from within the Blackberry, and also from the mobileemail.vodafone.com.au website. In each case the installations have proceeded normally with no error messages, and on the above website, both email addresses are shown as active. She has received a message from the Activation Server both times we have tried, but NO e-mails are being received from her Netspace address on the Blackberry.

    I have called Vodafone Blackberry support twice, and they can offer no explanation as to why one address works and the other doesn't. There seems to be no problem at the Netspace end.

    Are there any Blackberry users who have experience setting up personal e-mail addresses?

    yep, no problems at all getting my Blackberry Bold working with personal e-mail accounts via Three.

    I use IMAP4 as the server type rather than POP3, so the Blackberry synchronises mail with the server rather than sucking it down, although you can also configure POP3 to leave mail on the server for a period of time, allowing you time to also d/l it to your PC.

    Maybe check that Netspace offers a IMAP4 mail service?

    Thanks for the reply. Actually the problem turned out to be an authentication problem at Netspace. The service was down for several hours on Tuesday morning, and after it came up again everything worked!

    We were just unlucky in that we were setting up the Blackberry during the time when Netspace were having problems.

    We are using IMAP as well, and now it works fine.

    Hi Paul,
    I have a Blackberry Bold 9000 with Telstra business plan that includes unlimited Blackberry Enterprise email. Is it possible to set up a personal email account as well? Manual doesn't mention this.
    Actually manual is pretty poor. I searched for how to enter Flight Mode (standard profile on Nokia phones), but could find nothing. I stumbled across how to do this when I opened Manage Connections & saw that all I had to do was Turn All Connections Off. Why blackberry couldn't do this as a Flight Profile beats me.

    Hey Bruiser - I'm with Three and had no problems setting up personal e-mail accounts, not so sure about Telstra. I purposely went against the Business Plans as I prefer to have control over my e-mail severs rather than introducing a Blackberry Enterprise Server (BES) in between.

    I do not know if Telstra allow the eaddition of personal e-mail servers in addition to their business e-mail (BES) services.

    Hopefully, you should be able to access the Setup - E-mail Settings page and add your personal e-mail accounts from there. IMAP4 is a good way to set them up as this doesn't interfere with your personal PC mail download settings too much.
