Mine is a manual so a little off track. But mine has a breather for gearbox and another for transfer. I can't imagine yours being different.
Mine come up behind the engine and look standard.
I had someone tonight tell me that land rover transmissions and transfer cases are sealed units? Surley this is not true, I have extended my diff breathers and would like to do the same for GB and TC are the auto gear box and transfer box breathers esay to get to or do you have to drop the box out?

thrower78 they are located as Frizz says. However if you have difficulty finding them you may find they have been ripped off or even cooked by exhaust at some stage.
I was playing around under the car today as happens many weekends. I found a section in between the gear box and the engine sump that looks like it it surposed to have something attached but does not it has a bolt half way out. I have taken a pic sorry for the crap description. Is this anything, also at the bottom of the pic there is a vacant threded hole??
My car always drips very small amounts of oil from around this hole (not trany fluid wrong colour) and also off the point on the bottom of the transfer case (2nd pic) It doesn't drip enough to leave any pooling on the drive just enough to form mabey 1 or 2 drips. Is this anything to worry about or is this just a landy thing I need to get used to?
Thanks Andrew
There is supposed to be a small plate that covers the hole in the first pic, the bolt hole on the right is a larger diameter than the one on the left. The larger threaded hole is for fitting a special tool which threads into the hole with a bolt through it's centre to align with a hole in the flywheel to hold the crankshaft at #1 piston TDC for when you are changing a timing belt or adjusting the timing.
The bottom plug hole in the second pic is the wading plug hole, it is not meant to have a plug in it unless you are crossing deep water, the oil dripping out would be engine oil from the rear main seal of the engine.
Unless oil usage is excessive learn to live with it, Regards Frank.
Designed to prevent rust.

Should there be a plate covering it at all times? Do I need to find a cover for it.
Should I always have that bottom hole pluged if I am 4wding and going through water?
Are these items things that I can buy as spares or will I need to find one that is being wrecked and pinch them off there. Is there a problem with having the wader plug in all the time even when not driving through water?
Have a look in your owners manual ... and there should be a section on "Wading"
Lay under the car ... On the passenger? side of the bellhousing , there should be a square end threaded plug sitting in a hole .... this is the wading plug .. you take that out and fit it to the drain hole ...If your going 4x4 for the day, just install it, when finished for the day, just take it out & put it back in the "retainer" hole
The inspection cover can be made up in your shed using tin plate or Ali sheet .... what ever you can find ... it's not structural ... just a cover plate
