Check battery voltage at battery terminals.
Check fuse/s.
I've lost power to the two cigar lighter points that are connected to the second battery in my D1. anybody got any diagnostic advice before I head out to an auto electrics place?
Much appreciated.
Jon
Check battery voltage at battery terminals.
Check fuse/s.
Roger
Cheers. Don't suppose you'd know if the fuses connected to a second battery would be in the same place as the original fuses? As for voltage, do you mean to see if the battery is flat?
Jon
Second batteries are all set up differently so hard to say where fuses are located but should be close to battery on wire/s leading to accessory sockets. Probably just line fuses and not with original fuses.
And yes, see if battery is flat first - if you haven't got a multimeter then use a short piece of wire and a 12v globe between the terminals.
Roger
You have not said how fast the battery went down. Check the obvious etc like fuses, but if it occurred quite suddenly, and the battery is confirmed flat, I would look at a load test.
When they get towards the end of their life, the end does come quickly.
You can also use a hydrometre wich will tell you if you have a crook cell , you will need some charge in the battery , a good reading on the multimeter would be around 12.5v, as the other guys have mentioned check the obvious things, dirty/corroded terminals, check clamps are tight, with the car turned off check float voltage of battery, next step would be to start the vehicle , using your multimetre check that your second battery is actually receiving charge , you may have to wait a little bit depending on your setup for the charge to come over to the second battery , you should see somewhere around 13+v while running
