I replaced the Centre with a free flow Redback I think.

Sounds quiet at idle but really nice when you use it as intended

I had a new exhaust system fitted to my 95 V8 in place of the original one. I went for a 2.5 inch custom sports exhaust system in mild steel from Y junction back with a Supercat Converter straight through main muffler part no. SCM 4054 and Berkley sports resonator part no. BM444 and a 2.75 inch straight out single steel tailpipe tucked high up under the back bumper.

All up $350 fitted from Exhaust Plus at Northpark.

Deep distinctive Rover alloy V8 rumble at idle, noticeably louder than before but not deafening by any means. Open the throttle up and it growls as the revs rise bit like a muted TVR. Much more like it than before and so far I've driven everywhere with the back windows open just to savour the sound it makes.

You would have to try hard to stuff-up the noise of a Rover V8.

Loved driving mine. 2.5", strainght through muffler and no rear resinator. Cost me $250.

Was that a twin system of single? I am thinking either twin 2.5" or single 3".

Mine has the rear resinator removed with the standard muffler still in place and it sounds good although i am still looking at putting a custom system on.

I just went through this with my v8. Initially it had the stock exhaust system on it. I had the centre muffler replaced with a high-flow one, 2.5in pipe front-to-back, and kept the stock rear one. Noticeable but not dramatic increase in growl. Then I had the rear muffler replaced with straight pipe. This made it a whole different animal completely. Sounded like a muscle car. I loved it out on the tracks, but it literally gave me a headache at highway speeds on extended trips, my neighbors hated it (I'm a concreter and sometimes leave as early as 4am), and it was obviously totally illegal. I've recently replaced the straight pipe with a small, high-flow rear muffler and I'm happy with it now. Still has a nice growl around town, has a nice bark when I put my foot down, but doesn't drone...and my neighbors love me for it!

    2.5" duals ??

    I only used a 2.25" dual system on a 351C

2.5" single is plenty big enough on something around 4 litres, gives a nice compromise between flow and torque, a 3" single system is only used on big engines or for racing. Save your $

Mine is very similar to this, I have Genie extractors, 2.5" from the Y with a small sports muffler from A1 Exhausts, $300ish if I remember crroectly.
Only drone I have noticed is very minimal but in 5th at lower speeds around 70-80kp/h.

Fuel consumption wasn't a dramatic increase. Noise however.... was dramatic and very enjoyable. Head turner is an understatement. Drive it sensably.... no one would know.

Thanks to everyone for the info in this topic. I am new to this forum and have just bought a 94 V8i Disco. I want to get rid of the "grandad" exhaust system to hear some V8 music and was recently quoted about $1400 for a new system including headers, 21/2" pipe and a flow through muffler...... Don't think I will be shopping there.
