    1st gear holding till 3Grand- Disco 1 300Tdi

1 - Usualy when the truck is cold and you take off (Auto) first gear won't change until 3Grand or depending how hard you press your loud pedal. Then it jolts into second BUT after that initial jolt it seems to change fine. I've also noticed the gear changes seems different as to before, changes earlier but only when it's cold everything fine once she is hot. Wanna check the trans fluid just for the sake of checking it but the bloody dipstick is stuck in place and I tried pulling it out numerious ways but ended up ripping the head off the dip stick.
Just a heads up for those who want to buy my truck!!! Lolol

my disco had the revving out problem when i bought it, about 10,000kms later my auto stopped giving drive altogether, so i'd assume it is related

it started holding 1st gear longer and longer as the months went by, very annoying

2 - went for a drive the other day and encounterd some steep hills while on the black top. As soon as I hit the bottom of the hill she backs off so bad that I can get out and walk faster up the hill. Then obviously while the road atraighs out she ok until another hill. I have changed the lift pump as I have read before that it could be that. Any ideas???
    I have a 1994 V8i,
I had the same problems with 1 to 2nd when the auto was cold,
so i took it for a service and the Auto shop told me it had alot of fine metal in the sump, and the metal had made it's way into the govener valve, after it builds enough pressure it would clear and then change into 2nd and be fine for the rest of the day till next morning.
Cost me a $185 bux for the service and to find out my auto was nearly stuffed!!
The worst part was that the Auto in my disco had only done 65000 km's since it had a reco, NOT HAPPY JAN.

Hope your problem is a more simple one , but that was my experience.
    Luke

well in auto skylines all u do is put in new ATF and flush the converter. i recommend gulf western SYNTRANS $40 - 5L or castrol transmax z $75 - 5L. as a replacement ATF.
it may also be a good idea to change the filters

dont quote me on any of this as i said b4 my experience is in skylines
but gulf western are a dam good oil company

Have a look at the Ashcroft transmission site. Ashtrans is a poster on here.

You will see that it is a sticking governor and a sign the transmission is on the way out.

Simon, sticking governor is the issue no doubt, and unfortunately can spell the beginning of the end of a trans sometimes....
