Some people bury their foot in Fourth locked up and let it lose speed (die) until it hits 80 and unlocks.

Others pre-empt and select third and let it rev like mad.

It'd be great if like most other cars and newer Discos it simply unlocked when the boot was put in a little.
ah ok so there's really no fix to the problem? You just have to learn how to drive the hills the best way you can. I've heared of other tdi's doing hills at 100 - 110ks with a trailer/campervan attached! Just really ****s you when your going up these hills and there's no power there and everyone just looks at you while being overtaken. Lol

Or is there a fix? It just doesn't seem right for it to do that. Might have to ask the great man know as JC!

They're probably manual. Just drop it in 4th and rev it. Think my old 200Tdi did about 3250 at 100/105.

After a certain rpm a diesel will just fail to produce any more power, ie you can plant your foot as hard as you like but you wont get any more power.
I doubt those who claim 100-110 up hill in a tdi unless they were able to get a long run up and keep that momentum up. I was flying along untill i hit anthony's cutting which is 90 anyway but after that i was overtaking playdoh's and jeeps at 115.

I always change gears to suit the incline. 4th, to me, is just a comfortable overdrive for flat cruising.

Couldn't imagine doing a decent off road or highway 'climb' in 'Drive' alone.

Dont the Turbo Diesel discovery's have more torque than the petrol versions

My 3.5 doesnt have any trouble with hills

I drove up the Mount Dandenong tourist road no dramas sat in 3rd all the way up on the steep bits and drive on the flats

I didnt feel like it was bogging down at all

    ? fuel line

Is it slow to start too?

We had a problem with the fuel line in ours.

Started straight away after a short time of the engine being turned off, but if left, say, overnight, all fuel went back into the tank and it took about ten seconds of cranking the diesel through to start the engine.
I found a tiny crack in the nylon/plastic fuel line, raplaced it with a new quarter inch rubber line and now its fine!

Cheaper than replacing the injector pump...

Funny you should mention that as mine does that also. Mainly in the morning it takes around 10sec to fire it up and after that she is fine. Where abouts was the crack located? How many fuel lines are there?
