Hi all,
I have a slight noise coming from either the gear box or clutch. It's kinda like a dull constant grinding noise. Not that loud at the moment. I've been told by a couple of different people that it's the thrust bearing in the clutch, but then also from others that it's the bearing in the gear box.
The noise is only present when the clutch is out. When I press the clutch in, the noise goes.
What do you say, more knowledgeable people??
Thanks in advance.
brenno,
I'm not sure, but it can be this issue (the last item from this link) => Ashcroft Transmissions
My Disco does a rattle with cold engine, and when it arrives at normal temperature the noise goes, as the engine works smoother.
Regards
Thanks mate.
So is it something that will just 'go', or a progressive degeneration type of thing that will just get worse and worse??
Thanks mate.
I've checked the link. Mine is there all the time, regardless of engine temperature. Also, the link mentions a rattling noise. I guess mine is kinda like a rattle, but if I were to choose, I'd say it's more a grinding type of noise than a rattle. Additionally, it says there that these are symptoms in a diesel engine. Mine's a V8.
Gearbox bearings. Thrust bearing would make the most noise with the clutch depressed. It could go for years like that then fail within a week. Plenty of time to line up another gearbox, I think.
I am with Bee Utey on this one.
Sounds like gearbox bearings to me too.
I just sent mine to Award Diffs in NSW.
Free pickup and delivery from Tassie.
Cost around $1200 exchange. Very reasonable.
Shop around, it's a no hurry job unless you are planning a big trip soon. A second hand box courtesy of the recent hail storms could be a good find. It's never a bad thing to have a spare gearbox!
Ha ! Tell that to my wife, she already claims there's too much stuff in the shed.
It's not broken. It's "Carbon Neutral".
