    new owner of a disco

    hey guys,

i'm luckily enough to be the new owner of a 98 disco 1 td1 (gas converted)

now the fun of modding it begins..

i know this http://www.aulro.com/afvb/discovery-...w-owner-2.html exists already,

but i'm a perth lad, and more of a beginner than that..

so my disco is mostly standard.. owner put on side steps, roo bar and a gas conversion..

this is what i feel should be the first few mods.. bear in mind money is a tad tight so cost comes into play with the order

    cd player
    uhf
    some recovery gear
    spotlights
    navman
    cargo barrier (dogs)
    2" lift, muddies, rims
    snorkel
    compressor
    dual batt

is there something i am missing?
    or an order issue?

and best places to look for this stuff in perth?

suggestions most welcome.. bear in mind cost affects how quickly i can do somethings...

heya... first of all congrats to your new Landrover ownership!!

rovacraft in bayswater usually have a large range of things available (Land Rover Parts - Range Rover Parts Perth, Sydney, Melbourne)
there is also a LR wrecker on Albany hwy somewhere...
...search the internet for your recovery, entertainment and uhf needs...

and honestly, being a D1 check your basics first - cooling system (!!)(radiator, hoses, thermostat, waterpump), belts etc

for dogs I recommend (which I have done myself in my D1) a second floor in the back - so they sit higher, and you can still store stuff underneath them when on the road! you'll find a variety of options for barriers on the rovacraft website under catalogue-interieor protection (- if your very tight on money get a cheap one from supercheap or so..)
I also lined the floor carpet with plastic to attempt to prevent dog hair getting everywhere..

so many things to be done
    good luck and enjoy!!

    Welcome here mate.

    Nice model.
I would also do essentials like belts and radiator etc.
Than Lift, recovery gear and points, cargo barrier as dogs are projectiles in an accident.
Make sure its reliable and replace what isn't also as you go along many parts will pop up here in market section at very good prices very often.

If you upgrade to CD, get a integrated bluetooth and get speakers up graded as the stock ones are crap.

Check heater core is not leaking and change all fluids, good fluids and frquent changes will prolong the life of moving parts.

All the best and safe travel.

    Welcome Pete.
As the others are suggesting, its really worth knowing your vehicle before buying the add-ons.
Firstly, check all over the vehicle for any leaks. Its a D1 so expect a few.
Replace all the fluids with quality ones as previously stated. If it's a manual, replace the gearbox oil with Castrol Syntrans 75W85. Check when the timing belt was done. Replace leaking seals as necessary. Typical ones are rear main seal and transfer case input seal.
Install a coolant level monitor, as this will save your head in the event of a leak. Also worth installing an EGT sensor.
Comb through the threads in the forum for things relating to the D1 and you'll find potential weaknesses which it would pay to keep an eye on...
Once you get to know your vehicle, its less likely to leave you stranded somewhere.

Unscrew the plastic strips along the doors and lift up the carpet to see if there is any rust under there. Don't do what I did and put this off or you'll end up with a rusty floor like me.
