I haven't read all the posts, I haven't time, did you check the Boost Compensator Diagphram (BCD) for holes, also the air pressure hose from the turbo to said BCD, forgive me if this has already been covered, Regards Frank.

You can do the first stage of the pump tweak without needing an EGT gauge. it's quite simple ( if you can count ).
Also, get the timing checked. Timing belt may be out a notch or stretched. And the turbo hoses for delamination and leaks as mentioned.
Check the simple things before forking out the big $.

    turbo lag

i had 98 300tdi and had Davis Perfomance Landies do a turbo mod, made a huge difference. Give Bruce Davis a ring (0296791978)to find out if they still do the mod.
    cheers Ecka.

I'd love to hear peoples thoughts on moving the Turbo boost pressure sensing point, from the outlet of the turbo to the end of the Plenum Chamber (alloy inlet manifold) just above.

My thinking here could be in error, but never the less here we go. As I understand the boost is sensed at the outlet of the turbo to max out at 1 Bar standard, but because of pressure drop/resistance through hoses & intercooler it may not be quite 1 Bar at the plenum chamber or indeed the engine inlet valves???

I'm not real keen in over boosting and lowering reliability but I am keen on being sure I get the FULL 1 Bar boost where its needed. .... You thoughts Fella's???

Plenty of people have done it.

Actually they should read 1-1.1 bar, mine used to run right on 15.5psi at the turbo outlet. (installed a big exhaust and the boost pressure increased by 1-1.5psi just by lowering the back pressure)

Changing the position of the wastegate actuator hose to the plenum is no different to changing the wastegate actuator rod to give 1-2 psi more boost.
    Same result, different method.

I don't quite understand moving the pressure line to the inlet manifold.

Say you've got 15.5 at the turbo and 14.0 after the intercooler at the manifold, won't there be a drop in performance if the IP is fuelling for 14 PSI charge than 15.5?

Ahh you've answered my question, disregard my above post. So we're talking about the wastegate actuator, that I can understand.

Well, since starting this thread and reading the responses, I decided to do some Injector pump "tuning" and the difference has been awesome tbh.

I have the same reliability as before, but now IF I need to power on and get somewhere quick, I can!

My wife really noticed the improvement and my son who I didn't tell what I had done, mentioned the other day while giving him a lift home, "Wow this thing is really fast, what has happened too it!?"

I can zoom into a lane now in traffic, I even spun the back wheel yesterday while trying to merge into a space in traffic.

The turbo lag is no more! this thread is finished!
