Damned viscous fan - won't come out!!

I've spent about 8 hours so far trying to get the old bloody viscous fan hub off. I've looked though this (and other) fora looking for answers, and tried most of the suggestions.

Now it's a 98 V8, which should mean (if I can read correctly) that it will unscrew anticlockwise - standard thread unlike the diesel ones.

    So far:
    1. tried using the grip of serpentine belt - did nothing but squeal like a stuck pig
    2. tried holding with a ring spanner on the water pump pulley - it just rounded the bolt off
    3. tried holding with an oil filter wrench - no good
    4. Hit with a FBH and chisel
    5. Hit it with an air chisel
    6. Heated it
    7. Oiled the living daylights out of it.
    8. Tried taking the water pump off - the bolts have just rounded
Seems there's nothing left to try apart from buying the proper LR tool or something similar. Supercr*p, repco and autobarn don't seem to stock them.

Can anyone suggest anything new to try, apart from 2 litres of unleaded and a match?
Or a good tool shop in Brisbane south/west that would stock the right kit?

Have you actually had a spanner on the hub bolt? cause the LR tool is just a thin spanner.

I believe it is a 36mm on the V8 (definitely 32mm on 300Tdi) and yes normal thread I believe too on the V8 (definitely reverse thread on 300Tdi).

I understand a Falcon hub spanner is the same size and can be got from many places (somewhere around the EB vintage maybe?).

I have a wrench that fits the 36mm hub nut, it's the holding still part that's the problem!

The LR tool is a thin spanner, but they might also do a bolt lock device?

You need to wedge something in between the bolts at the waterpump so stop it from turning (no doubt you alreday know that).

I can see from RAVE that there are two tools LRT-12-093 for the holding part and LRT-12-094 (or something like that) for the spanner itself. I'm OK for the spanner, it's the "holder" that I probably need and can't find somewhere that sells it or something similar.
The only places I've managed to find that sell something like have been UK or US based, and I really need to get this done for the weekend.

And when trying to undo it with the belt still on, it didn't turn the engine - the belt slipped before it managed to do that.

Have you tried a few good bangs with a hammer on the end of the spanner to try and shock load it?

I've tried hitting the spanner with a hammer, hitting it with a hammer and chisel, even tried hitting my fingers with the hammer. That didn't work either, it just made me say very bad words

Looks like you've covered it all!

Maybe one of the dealers might have the tool in stock: Locate A Dealer | Land Rover Australia

on my 93 3.5 v8, i found a big enough shifter, and gave it a sharp hit on the end with a rubber mallet in the direction i wanted it to turn, while the belts were still on, and have never had a problem undoing it

Remember that the VC undoes in the direction the fan turns. If the fan turns CW the VC undoes CW. If it turns CCW, the VC undoes CCW. Worth making sure you are correct in your directions.
