It took me about three days of swearing at it on and off to release mine. Did all the things mentioned except tying the belt and no good, could not stop it turning. I eventually took one of the pulley bolts out and screwed some flat steel to it and braced it against the Alt. Put my 450mm spanner on it and belted the crap out of it. Looking from the front hit it from right to left towards the Alt. All of a sudden it finally went. Once cracked comes away easy. Persistence pays off.
