Evening all, just got the Disco back from the local independant landy shop where he was going to reset the SRS light using his Hawkeye tool. Only problem is he couldn`t find the plug...
We`ve looked all over the show, with no joy.
I`ve been thinking - the airbag wiring (in yellow) all looks present and accounted for, and it has a 4-pin connector spare on the loom with a blanking plug fitted. Does the OBDII plug itself lead into this? My truck doesn`t have ABS being a 1994 Tdi, so it is possible that it doesn`t have the OBDII connector, just the 4-pin (with three actual pins) connector?
To the best of my knowlege, the OBDII connector on the D1 pre EDC only does ABS and SRS, so it seems plausible that the early ones didn`t need the full monty?
If this is the case - would I just get the OBDII connector from a later 300tdi Disco, connect it up and get it reset?
Help, please (as I only need the light reset and I`m road-legal again...)

Thanks - the problem is that mine doesn`t have the plug, nor look like it has ever had the plug (as there`s no wiring). RAVE shows the diagnostic socket as per the attached diagram - I think that the OBDII plug simply plugs into this socket, as a 300Tdi doesn`t have an engine management system at all, let alone an ODBII compliant one. Also, not having ABS it would be redundant having (I think) 16 pins to cover off 3 actual connections.
Hi , your car won't have the OBD connector, didn't come out til 96 MY.
The small white 4way connector next to steering column (which you describe) is the one you use for SRS diagnosis.
The land Rover T4 diagnostic tool has leads which plug into that.
Hi there, I am looking for this plug too now. Is it the one with one black wire, one green/yellow, one yellow coming out the back? The one with a lot of yellow electrical tape around them?.
where does one get a T4 diagnostic tool ......car is unreg and I can't drive to a mechanics.
and lastly, did you get to the bottom of this problem?
cheers, Mickl
When I had my old D1 at the dealership and also at an indy they pulled the drivers side kick panel off and plugged the diagnostics /Textbook into a plug there. They are not the same as the ODBII plugs. ODII were only on NAS spec ones as far as I remember
I understand the T4 diagnostic tools were all removed from Land Rover dealerships some time ago, but I have not been able to establish what has replaced these tools. The plug these old Disco 1 cars have is the white one with only three wires out the back.
Any more info out there Aulro members?
cheers, Mickl
On my 98 TDI the socket was black and near the trans tunnel trim under the lower dash fascia.

Disco 1s (and early Freelanders) have diagnostic ports but not OBDII which is a particular protocol that came in, in the late 90s - then the Americans sick of the different diagnostic systems in different carsand legislated that all vehicles had to have the OBDII system - hence first into LR petrol engined products as these were sold in the US and then later in the diesels.
So dont confuse earlier diagnotic systems in LR with OBDII which is a particular system - on older systems you need readers etc that match the diagnotic system and OBDII systems will not work and most probably will not plug in due to different socket arrangements.
