    Revs dont drop....

Hi all, I have a 1993 Disco v8, problem is when I depress the clutch (manual vehicle) at speed the revs wont drop way down but will only drop to about 2000rpm. At the lights for example and being stationary, the revs will hover at 2000rpm then after about 10 seconds will drop to idle speed. When the vehicle is in gear, say in 2nd for exampe, I'll brake into a near stop and the revs will drop and when I depress the clutch to put it in neutral, the revs will jump from near stalling to 2000rpm. I cant work out what the problem is. Can someone please point me into the right direction?

Your problem is in a couple of areas ....

So the cheap stuff first .....

All those black hoses going from the rocker cover "fire trap" to the intake need to be taken off and cleaned

You need to clean all of the intake side of things

Stepper motor / Hot wire on the MAF / All vacuum hoses / Butterfly inside the plentium .... Unscrew the "Fire trap" off and clean it

Kerosene & circuit board cleaner are your friends

Also check that the rubber flex hose of the intake from plentium to MAF has no cracks .... Also check for vacuum leaks

After that good clean up .... If that doesn't settle it down, then other items need to be looked at

    Mike

The other thing to do is remove the rotor and drop some engine oil down the shaft below as the centrifugal advance can seize if not lubricated.
Take out the little screw if you feel necassary.
BE CAREFUL taking the rotor off as if you pull too hard a circlip in the dizzy will break. If it is tight it is best to break it in bits to take off with multi grips.
To test it turn the rotor a bit only against spring pressure. It should immediately spring back.

(Don't know if this applicable to V8 LRs)

How is the return spring on the accelerator assembly.

Similar problem recently with my son's Nissan Patrol.

Better you hope that it is!

    Replace one spring. Problem solved.

As for what happens if it isn't?

    Sorry.
