    96 D1 V8 Missfire

Hoping someone has had the same problem. The old girl has a missfire from start up and all the way through the rev range (it sounds great at the lights and feels like a lumpy cam) and doesnt feel like it has lost a lot of power .

I have changed plugs, rotor button, dizzy cap and have done a compression test and all is good. I feel that i have narrored it down to an injector. Has anyone else any ideas what else it could be. i have done a search on the forum but nothing popped up.

    Cheers

The injectors run in two banks, try disconnecting the injector plugs that you can reach, one by one and see which one doesn't drop the revs. You can swap injectors for Falcon and Commodore ones, look in the forum for threads on correct injectors.

I would try first to find the missing cylinder by pulling the plug leads off one by one. I use special plastic pliers for this. It's not recommended to use pliers with metal in them! Otherwise take each lead off one at a time and install a temoprary spark plug to test, run the engine and see if it is different.

Have you done a compression test?

Thanks Bee utey, I have done a compression test and all 8 were up around 100 so thats all good. I am replacing a injector tomorrow (saturday) with a second handy i picked up from Glen at Roverland (Boronia Victoria) and see if that works. Thanks for the heads up on the commodore or falcon replacements.

    Cheers

well 100 is BAAAAD, but if they are all the same you may have not cranked for long enough or something.
    Should be 140-150.

Did you change the leads too? If you're doing the rest then for the little bit extra money make sure your leads are top notch. I had lots of misfire dramas lately and as soon as I changed the plugs and leads it was perfect again...and when I changed the plugs the old ones didn't look that bad anyway but the old leads were rubbish. I used a Bosch lead set and after the difference it made I'll never use anything else.

I replaced the leads with bosch ones as well. I took yhe old girl down to the car doctor he but it on his machine that goes "ping" and we found that it was a faulty NGK plug. This is the second one out of the new batch that i put in that has died! So we are full steam ahead again. Apart from my clutch issue.

Haha mine is also full steam ahead after new Bosch plugs/leads (Bosch is awesome) and a re-cored radiator, but I have a pending clutch/gearbox issue that I hope is nothing too serious...till I get it checked out by someone who tells me otherwise

If you are close to Boronia call Glen at Roverland. Very clever car doctor! . Check out my thread about the clutch problem and see if it relates in anyway.

    Cheers

One of my Dizzy Cap terminals was breaking down from inside ( the one at the rear from memory, near the clip & it was arcing to that)

Cleaned it up & painted some nail polish lacquer over it which fixed it until I got another cap. Colour shade not important btw.
