    Flexi Flares without cutting guards

    Hi team

I have a 300tdi that is getting a 2" lift installed on friday from Suspension Stuff. I'm currently running 245/70/16's and intend keeping this tyre size, but am looking at putting them onto some sunraysia style rims with more offset ( maybe somewhere between 0 & -25mm) to make it look less narrow in stance. Was wondering if you can fit flexi flares without having to cut the bodywork, and whether increasing the track will create clearance issues with this tyre size?

    I dont think you can.

I fitted a set of the LRA flares to a RRC and that required cutting guards and I have recently fitted a set of flexi flares from the UK to my D1 and that also required some trimming of the guards.

if you fit a set of 0 offset sunnies on the D1, you wont need to flare it, but then again you wont get the stance that you are after.

If you go to a -25 mm off set rim, you will most likely need something to cover the wheels, but flexi flares would not be my first choice for you, they will make the wheel arch too large for a 245/70/16.

I would recommend trying to source a set of factory guard extensions, they dont require the guards to be trimmed and would give about another 15-20mm tyre coverage

good luck and dont forget to post some pics

    cheers

Thanks Mark. I had assumed I would have to cut the guards also until I saw this on ebay.

Are these the same as the flares you fitted to your D1?

yeah, they are the same ones I used on the D1. I am running 35's so the guards needed to be trimmed, I dont think they would work on uncut guards tho. They would be too long and protrude down past the bottom of the guard, and being fully moulded, I just cant see how they would fit properly.

Maybe someone here has fitted them to uncut guards, but I cant see how they would line up and fit properly. All the pics I have seen of these flares have been on cars with bigger wheels and so are the pics they used.

I will watch with interest and see if someone else posts up.

    cheers

the flexi's don't sit properly at all on uncut guards.

i've tried just holding mine against the car to position them but they foul on the countours of the body etc...so definitely need cutting.

Without cutting they'd look pretty rediculous as well, as there'd be a fair bit of panel underneath them (that would normally be cut out)

yes, it has to be said. You can get them cheaper directly from the UK. If you do a search on flexi flares in the D1 section, there is heaps of information on UK suppliers and prices. in general terms, you should be able to get a set delivered to your door from the UK for under $400AU

    cheers

I am just wondering why you would want to keep to stock profile on the car?? Why would you go to the trouble and expense of buying seomthing like this and then not trimming the guards to suit? You would be better off just doing a camel cut and some bunnings flares.

Flares like those in the link are way overkill for 245/70 tyres even with a changed offset, they will look like mini wheels in the well. 245's on stock rims are a good fit and 265/70's will also fit without flares and just a mild camel cut trim.
