if its green its possibly contamination from blue wheel bearing grease, diff oil gets into the wheel bearings from dead axle seals.
if its grey/milky its water contamination, again from dead seals.
cheers phil
hey hey
Been noticing sort of a shudder while driving but it seems to come and go. the only way i can describe it is if its like i'm driving with muddies on but only have at's. thought i'd check the rear diff as its leaking oil from the back of the diff where the drive shaft is (Near the rubber thinggy on the drive shaft). ANYWAYS filled it up with oil and it didnt really need much but thought i'd check. next went on to the front diff opened her up and BAMM the oil is like a greeny colour??? dont know if its water or whatever but i've changed the oil as much as i could (What i had left of the gear oil) but have some more now and just need to find some time to change it again. any ideas of why green OK maybe its green/grey dont know as when i get home from work its already dark and everything looks the same lol.
cheers

Hi Simon Pour the oil into a glass jar and leave it to settle if its water the oil will float to the top this might take a while.
Simon, if you have that one-shot grease in your swivel housings, then that is most likely what it is. It quite easily seeps into the diff via the inner axle seal, and is originally a grey/ green colour.
It would pay to check the swivels still have a fair amount of grease, and don't worry it won't hurt the diff.
