    300tdi Rebuild

    Gday,

The 300tdi in my Discovery has died and I am looking to rebuild another 300tdi and thus I have a few questions:

    1) I have been offered a 300tdi basic long block (
short block with the head still on it) for $550 (sold as is), that has come from a fire damaged (engine bay fire) car. Is this worth it for the price? I would assume the engine would still be in fairly good nick, at least for a rebuild?

    2) In regards to rebuild kits, where is the best and cheapest place to source this? Or even in individual bits?

    3) Is it even worth rebuilding a 300tdi these days, or just better off getting another Discovery with already a good engine? My current Discovery is still in good nick bar the engine.

Any help and advice appreciated! I may have more questions later!
    Regards

How bad the fire was will impact on the engine condition but if you can find out the k's it has and any history it could be a drop in swap for your dead motor. TDI parts are pretty pricey so UK would be best bet, how did yours fail ?

My philosophy has always been as long as the body is good then its worth an engine rebuild, at least then you will know its history.

just been throught the process $550 is a very good price. I source all my parts directly from the UK substantually cheaper than any local imports. Used Turner Engineering for all engine parts a little bit more than Paddocks but parts will arrive on my door steep 3 days after the order, last time used paddock took 3 weeks.
