Nice lookin Discovery, i like that colour.
Did you get any info on the radiator
I have 2 disco's plus my father has one as well,

One thing ive had to do on all 3 of them is to get the radiator rodded,
for some reason the radiator tubes are very thin & block easily,
costs around a $100 bux depending on where you take it.
it's winter now but would recomend you get it done before the warm weather comes in, when these engines get to hot they can have all sorts of drama's.

Ok so i have finally taken ownership of my 1st disco arrived today from QLD to Vic.

Didnt want to start on first go and had a rough idle. also didnt have much fuel either so went to put some new fuel in as I dont know how long it was sitting around for. Idle seems to be ok now and starts first go everytime

Did some reading up on what to look for when buying one and so pulled all the interior out and has now filled my garage up YAY....

Found that after the rain we had here in vic that the front had some water under the carpet and perhaps the damaged windscreen maybe the problem also found some new friends under the carpet lots and lots ants and not small ones either... rear looked very good and made me feel a lot better as I didnt check this before buying it lucky me.

jobs for tomorrow;

find alternative underlay for the carpet as the original is not going back anyone have some suggestions? maybe a call to clarkrubber which might have something that does not absorb water I'm also look for new door seals as i believe someone else posted that they have them.

do an oil change fuel filter and maybe look at the 1 and only oil leak it has... or should i leave it alone just in case the old girl decides to spring another leak lol...

leads appear ok and no sparks jumping that i could see tonight in the dark will check plugs tomorrow and see what there like.

Need to find something for the window guides if thats what there called?? anyway need something to help them go up and down easier as they appear to struggle a little.

Is it normal for the back windows to only go down 3/4s of the way? or should they go down all way like the front?

find out why the crappy driving lights dont work and post some pics up of the disco and whats going on for those interested.

As for wet carpets, check aircon condensate drain may be blocked near passenger foot well or leaves blocking drain under the hood.
Worst case, you have a leaking heater core or hose.

Rear windows can be slow as can the fronts, be thankful they go at all LOL.

The rear windows only go 3/4 as if you stand back, you will notice the wheel arch comes up and the door follows that.

That Disco does well on PULP by the way and if you have not a;ready worked it out, they suck roughly 20L/100.

As said above, get the cooling system rodded asap.
One hot episode and you are in the poo.
Get a low water alarm too before you get a new stereo as it has saved many a rover in the past.
Change all hoses and belts and use equivalant or Penrite HPR 5/40 semi synthetic and good filter for oil.
These cars respond well to Gas and with current rebates, it could be worth your while as running costs depending on your average mileage can be a bit of a issue.

If you are getting a new windscreen fitted, ask the fitters to take a little extra care sealing it up properly, Disco's tend to leak around the windscreen area

I had some heavy surface rust in the footwells, put a wire brush on the drill and cleaned the rust off, vacumed up all the crap, and then resealed the floor pan with Tectyl, amazing stuff! alowed to dry overnight.
Then i put some rubber mats on the floorpan, got some offcut foam underlay from the local carpet layer & put between the rubber mats & carpet.
Ive since rechecked what i'd done and found 95% of the foam underlay was dry, rubber mats had stopped the foam absorbing the moistre, was a tad bit of moisture between the rubber mats and floor pan but it is winter a very wet here ATM, Tectyl looked to be sealing the floor still.

Thanks for the heads up. I had a look under the car and poked around and some water came out. we had rain last night but the inside of the car was dry??? so its got me where the water is coming from...

Yes seen many conversations around economy so might be giving PhillipA ideas a try and install some o2 sensors and see what happens.

That is on my list to do just have to find someone in the western suburbs of Melb and is it better to drop the car off? or just take the radiator out and hand it over to them?

With the low water alarm any ideas of a good place to start to buy one? I tried autobarn but have to do POA from VDO. ARB have nothing either on the shelf. Havent been to supercrap yet and my brother is checking what he has at work as he is the truckin industry so might even get some other goodies from him . also avg price for this unit would be good so that I know what I should be looking for if possible might check if there are any threads on this in the forum. funny enough I thought about servicing the car and didnt think about the hoses thanks for that one..

thank you will have a chat to him as he is a mate of a mate lol. I rang windscreen ob..... and they wanted $430 just for the screen and then $55 for each moulding if required. surely that is not normal and then they asked do you have windscreen cover and then the light went on in my head

Hit the floor today with a wire wheel on the grinder and all came up rather good especially compared to what others have posted pics of on the forum. Didnt find Tectyl but found some stuff that cleaned it all up and then allowed me to put sealer over it one more coat tomorrow and I might be able to put her back together (should have put some tint in with this so it matches). Found some non absorbing foam at clarkes rubber that should do the job and also some door rubber mouldings but not sure if too cut and replace half on each door as its only the bottom thats causing the problem or do the whole moulding....
