    Radiator

Ok, just had the disco serviced and some other work done (what do you know, the cruise now works!) they told me that my radiator is ok for now in the cold weather but will need recurring/replacing. Quoted $600ish for a recore. I have seen new ones on flea bay for about $670, anyone know if I can get one cheaper? Or should I consider a recon?

Also, apparently I have rust issues above the windscreen under the lining, any recommendations on how to best go about fixing or should I just let them "do it"?

    Cheers

hi if you are looking for cheep i think you can get a second hand one for about 100 bucks, there is a guy in victoria he traids on ebay as user name "sexgodsteve69" he parts out land rovers, however if your looking for a quality radiator, you could go with an aussiedessert cooler i had a custom aloy one welded up from them it went hard. with twin thermo fans , the conversion takes the transmition cooling out of the radiator because if it bursts it will get water in your transmition and water in your engine oil. so it re routs that into seperet coolers as well. however a reco installed for 600 is cheep. it is a bussy radiator. i think they are over a grand from lr. the 3.9L one is huge and coper core.

    jeff.

    good luck .

I rang them once and asked for a price on a very common Land Rover part , even gave them the Part number, and the guy at the other end of the phone sounded pretty dumb and suprised.
    So I bought elsewhere.

When my D1 started to overheat, I bought a brand new radiator. As I was going to be doing a lot of towing, it was the peice of mind knowing that I had the right part for the job. If LR thought a smaller radiator would do, they would have fitted one. Everytime my D1 has had a problem, it has been with a non LR part or someone elses mod, or workmanship. Often faults are not a design problem, they are a result of a maintenence problem. Or the lack of it.

I like your reasoning about size, but how do you explain the Sump plug size on a V8, surely that's over engineering by Land Rover. or was it a case of we have this very large socket in the factory, let's design a sump plug to fit it.

    Thanks guys,

Can I assume from the comments that the ones on flea bay are a different size to the standard one?

If so, does that mean I am better going with the recur rather than the replacement?

    Cheers guys
