The 235 is 30 mm narrower to the 265, that will leave a smaller footprint which as far as I am concerned can be a real bonus in many off-road situation bar sand in which you will deflate to 18 psi anyhow i guess.

It will than have almost same footprint as the side walls will bulge further.
I have always found the narrow tyres to be much better off road, less puncture prone and they also put less strain on steering componets due to less width and friction which must also translate to better fuel economy to some degree.

235's are also readily available should be be in the bush I have found.

    Cheers

judging by this guide 235's require a front endcap trim... is this true or can you run 235's with a lift and a rear fender trim?

Flares or 2" at a guess. I have both and love it

Lift and rear fender trim. I didn't have problems with endcaps on either vehicle, though I now have a bullbar so the point is moot.

I found the 235/85 16 to be excellent on sand; at stockton beach aired down to 16psi they were simply awesome (beginners and advanced sand driver training with the Range Rover Club (NSW)). I found that the side walls dont bulge much at all, but the tread lengthened - think mini tank tracks! I have certainly had no problems with them elsewhere off road.
