    200tdi cutting out?

Any advice accepted, our Disco has started cutting out to an idle occasionaly, did it at Christmas, I cleaned the sedimentor, checked and cleaned up the stop solenoid and the fitted new fuel filter. No more probs until last week, out in the country going up a hill, then cough cough, speed drops to an idle the this time the engine stopped altogether, but it restarted and hasn't missed a beat since!

Any Ideas? I'm thinking dicky lift pump myself.

    Thanks, Jack

I had similar symptoms which turned out to be a bad hose from the turbo to the intercooler. Looked ok from the outside but on the inside the wall had delaminated and would block airflow. The bubble that formed in the pipe would deflate after a while and the truck would be right as rain. Specifically look at the 90 degree bend that exits the turbo.

Could it be water in the fuel?

Hi, No I haven't found the problem, it happens so rarely its just frustrating, it has only happened 4 or 5 times in the past year (and twice in the same day!) and can be dodgy if it happens on a busy road. I have checked the intercooler hoses, and am about to run the fuel tank to empty and check inside. I have checked the sedimenter and it has been pretty clean each time. I have a new lift pump and filter in the car and will change it out if I have to.

The biggest thing that puzzles me is that whenever it stops it always starts up as if nothing has happened, you know how a healthy Tdi starts, or if it 'stutters', it picks up and we're away. It seems like it's starving of fuel, I'm wondering if there is a problem with the electrics to the stop solenoid (and I have checked the connection) but that wouldn't explain the not quite stopping issue.

I have to admit that it has me puzzled!!

    Thanks, Jack

    Found it (I Hope)!!

Well, today the Disco died on me completely, luckily it happened near home and unluckily I had my boat in tow my and my brother rescued me with his NISSAN (gee, that leaves a nasty tast in the mouth!) I managed to get the engine running and limp home in low box, there just wasn't enough power to drive normally. I pulled the lift pump off as I had suspected this was the problem all along, and as I took the pump off the block, a small washer dropped out into my hand. I think that it has come off the end of the shaft that is operperated by the cam. I fitted the new pump I had on hand and went for a good blast up the road and all seems to be fine(so far). I will let you know if we have further problems.
