Thanks for that Milsy.
The 4WD Systems one is worth considering. The last full length rack I purchased (for my old Maverick years ago) was from them and it performed admirably.
Steel is a plus, so they say, as aluminium is hard to repair if/when corrugations have their say on weld-points. Of course it's a bit heavier!
I didn't realise they did a contoured version. Maybe I'll check them out (when I've got a bit more spare cash).
Thats the rack I run. Quite heavy but very strong.
I was lucky enough to pick it up quite cheap 2nd hand.
Rez.
Rez, How heavy is it mate?
It would have to be 40-50kgs. Takes two people with a bit of strength to lift it up and fit it.
Because of that I leave it on permanently now.
It double as the perfect roof protection from trees too ;-) Its had a few decent run ins with overhanging branches and it always comes out on top.

I like the alloy TJM contoured racks.

Poser shot of mine and Bruce's (Wander)
My understanding is that TJM powdercoat the steel racks black and these alloy bars are a silver/grey powdercoat. I looked at getting mine redone in black but the cost of stripping and recoating was more than what I paid for the rack secondhand. I was told that because the powdercoat was in good nick they could coat straight over without stripping but no guarantees.
My BBQ (as above) is usually on the front section and roofbag fills the rear section when req. The rack itself I find great and apart from carrying "stuff" makes a fantastic viewing platform/lookout/vantage point.

Yeah I think the aluminium may be the go, just due to weight. Poor old disco struggles as it is.. I would prefer it in black but will speak to TJM about it this week.
Gooseneck I'd say that refers to the factory rack/bars and the wieght they can safely hold.
My rack weighs that by itself and I'd be confident it could hold a good 100kg, not that I would put that much weigh up so high......
When I stand on it it doesnt even flex.
