Cool LSD or diff lock front or rear

I only have enough money to put in a diff lock or LSD in one end of my disco.Should I go front or back and also would a KAM LSD be good enough? When money allows me to I will do both ends.

I can't help you with brands or breeds but put a locker in the sharp end and an LSD in the rear. Get the more costly one now while you can, which will leave the cheap (relatively) one for later so you don't have to find as much $$$ then.

    agreed with lsd and locker,

but in real life, id get just the locker in the rear, i had the money for one and only one, and got a abr in the rear, never ever regretted it, it will get you as far and further then you will need to go,

yes they are expensive, but that first time you flick switches and just walk up that crazy hill endless smiles and every time you hit them switches,

have you considered a auto locker, like a detroit, i havent driven one, but iv been out with people with them, adn they are as good as a selectable locker, and cheaper,

A Detroit in the front will cause your Disco to "straightline" (understeer). Not good (to the point of being dangerous) on the blacktop.

    i had similar questions also.

So my first question is how much do you have to spend?

What type of driving are you wanting to do as this all depends what to get first if anything... also what tyres are you running ie size.

What have you compared your budget too and what are you expecting.

Good website that i found on here is

Lucky8llc.com then look under driveline on the lefthand side good prices especially if the exchange rate is up and delivery is cheap although will take approx 10 days.

I have a maxi locker in the back and boy does it make a difference.

Just recently we were in the flinders and up a steep creek bed in low 2 with centre locked, it just made it half way, I tried low 1 and slow, very slow and faster. No good and neither did the other cars make it.
Flick of the switch, and low 1 and up she walked, I kept revs at 1800rpm.

Thats how good they are. Definately worth it if you want the extra grip.

fitted front and rear tru trac detroits in my 1993 range rover classic couldn't be happier with improved traction for off road no big change on road except slightly stiffer return to centre after turning on road with steering wheel but get used to it fairly quickly

i vouch for what cartm58 says. my car has them front and rear and has more of a desire to self centre on the blacktop but you soon get used to it. i don;t do much four wheel driving but they certainly provide noticeable improvement in traction. however - except for sand. i guess the lsd's are being overly nice to the wheels on their axle and trying to give each wheel a go at turning but it feels like it does too much shuffling between each wheel and you end up losing drive/momentum. i'm sure that someone who does a bit of 4wd will explain this better. going on this i would feel that one of the axles should have a locker as opposed to the tru trac lsd. never driven a car with locking axles so can't offer an opinion on whether you need one at each end. hopefully those who have experienced both can point you in the right direction and get you on the right upgrade path.
