Brake lights flickering...loose connection perhaps?
A friend driving behind me the other night informed me my brake lights weren't working...then at a closer look I found out they were in fact flickering on sometimes when I pushed the pedal a few times but most of the time they didn't come on at all. All pointing to the kind of behavior a loose connection would cause.
Does this ring any bells with anybody? I was going to take the car up bush tomorrow but I can't be driving around without brake lights so I'm hoping it might be a quick DIY fix...hoping with fingers crossed

Apparently Autobarn has the Tdi stop light switch but not the V8 one....are they the same ones? I wouldn't have thought there could be much difference between the two???

Mine has the unfortunate ability to allow dust/crap up through the rear.
Given you are in Melbourne and the amount of moisture we have had recently and the dust that would have collected on the globe sockets over the past dry period, I would remove and clean all the light globes and sockets before worrying about replacement switches.
At least it gives you a 'clean' starting point.

That probably wouldn't be a bad idea anyway but it's definitely to do with the pedal I think, the way it would flicker on and off depending on how I wiggled my foot on the pedal definitely points to something to do with the pedal.
I'm sure they could do with a clean anyway though

Sorry, missed the brake pedal ref. in your first post.
Could be the whole setup needs a clean.
Having said that, I can't see why the brake switch would be different between the Tdi and V8.
But, it is a Land Rover so you never know.
JC or similar would be your man!

I've had this before, took the bulb out they looked and tested fine, but flick the bulb with a finger and ti would flicker, the filament had broken at one end and the free end was only just touching. It took me ages to track it down.

The switch is so simple to remove...why don't you either replace it or open it up for a quick clean?
If it's the original it might be quite brittle so take care. Inside there are a few moving parts and a sprint IIRC....I changed mine at the side of the road a few months back when my mate told me the brake lights weren't working.
Also watch out that you don't cross thread the plastic threads when putting it back on.
It's fiddly to get at...but anyone can do it.

I'd go for the brake light switch, its the only moving part.

Well the lights started working properly the other day but I'm pretty sure it's still all a bit uncertain, and since my local mechanic Range Rover Recovery (the Vermont mob) has the switch for about $20 I'm just going to get one and put it in, at least then I'll know it's all good.

Well I got in there yesterday and replaced the switch...working good as new now! The only problem I saw is that the new switch is slightly different in shape and thickness than the old switch...as such I had to put a couple of carefully placed cable ties through the hole and wrapped around the bracket so that they don't get in anythings way but stop the new (smaller) switch from moving around with the brake pedal movement.
Anyone else experienced similar issues when replacing this switch or did they perhaps give me the wrong one? It is a switch which is just a long rectangular shape...the one I pulled out of there has a hexagonal type mould on it.
