Just checked my power steering reservoir and it was very very dry, not a drop to be seen from the top so I topped it up and it took about 200ml. I have not started it yet so that's just it being cold and sitting still.
Is that a really bad thing? Ie. If I've been driving it like that for a few weeks (which is very possible) could there be damage done or so long as it's still steering okay should it be okay?
I did notice a high pitched whining noise coming from somewhere not long ago so that might be what it was...I'm just hoping nothing has been damaged.
I did...good memoryI thought that might have been the leak I just got so busy with everything else that I didn't get around to checking it.
I topped it up with Dex III auto transmission fluid which is apparently the stuff it likes.
That and a bit of engine oil seems to be the only leaks that I've got. The clutch fluid and brake fluid are still at full levels and the radiator has been recored so no coolant leaks. Just means I have to keep an eye on the oil and power steering fluid. I can live with that...unless they are non-costly fixes![]()
Angus!
Take a Valium FFS.
Chill.
It will all work out in the end!
Haha yes I will...maybe two...then I'll go work on my car![]()
I had a power steering leak for nearly 12 months as long as you keep the levels up all should stay good. How clean is the engine bay. If you give it a clean and then go for a drive for about ten minuites and stop give it about another ten then you will prob see where the leak is. the reservoir where the hoses come out is a good start. The steering box is the next as the end seal tends to give way after a while. Easy to fix though. $70 and 4 hours and you can rebuild the box if thats what it is. Alot cheaper than buying a recon box. Good luck with your search, hope its nothing![]()
