Thread: Tyres for Disco

Alot of people complain about the effects of putting bigger tires on disco.. i have 97 300tdi with 2"lift i put 235/85's KM2's on and no kidding they did NOTHING to power! if anything it made it better. the gears rev out longer, sits at lower revs down the highway, not much difference in fuel economy and best of all i have tested many times on same stretch of road up a hill and on flat.. it has THE SAME ACCELERATION NOW as it did with standard tires! if not a tad more..,, from my experience i believe the 235/85 is PERFECT for the 300tdi... had them on for bout 25,000 now and love the size... great in the otways and great for a larger (32inch) tire without casusing many headaches. i just did camel cut on rear of guards and reshaped the mudflap brackets. nothing els and i do not get one bit of rubbing, scraping etc under all circumstances. But hey thats just my experience..

iv got 265 70r 16s cooper muddies i think they are equal to what 31? 32s?? rubbs on full lock , i also just cut the corners of my rears as the tyres did a good job of chewing the guards a tad

yeh the 265/70 is a 30.6 inch whereas the 265/75 is a 31.6... meh close enough that it makes bugger all difference... thats one reason i chose the 235 over the 265 is the turning circle of the titanic ;-) as u have to adjust steering stops , where as 235 you dont... well i didnt have to anyway

I have 265x75 16 bridgestone desert duelers 694lt on mine and they only scrub when on hard lock.
I don't have a lift kit and I don't have a camel cut.

get abit of articulation going and you will need to do camel cut haha makes a nice mess

I'll be fitting a set of 315/75/16 mickey thomson baja MTZ's as soon as i can find time to trim the gaurds and fit flares. I have 2" suspension and 2" body lift also have a -4.25 offset on my rock crawlers on my D1. with no trim i cant turn at all and the rears wont even fit, at the moment i just have the stock michelins on it. i researched first and upgraded the axles and cv's before i bought the tyres. I dont drive it every day i'm mainly setting it up for touring the kimberly next year if i get time off work and everything done.

Hmm-315's Hope you don't ever get a flat too far from a tyre shop.

No one will stock them outside any CBD. Not sure if good choice for touring either but hope it all works out for you.
4 inch lift, big foot print and high COG, not sure if that is good set up for touring also.
Could be a comp truck though!

I'll let you know. And I'll make sure i have enough spares when heading to remote areas. Fingers crossed i dont need them. I've got an old shorty patrol that im thinking of making into a comp truck so the disco is my learning vehicle as well as tourer. I just can't do anything by 1/2s its all in or nothing at all. If i fail I'll learn from it and start again
