you can, but to do it legally you will need to get it engineered.

Once you exceed 2" you start another ball game, cranked trailing arms, high angle or spaced a frame ball joint, castor correction, adjustable panhard, longer shock towers and spacers, front shaft vibes can begin.......

In Victoria it is now illegal to change your bumpstop clearance by more than a third of the original distance. On a 4wd the accepted RWC height is a 2" suspension lift without an engineers report, and body lifts a definate no go. Over the years I have found that a 2" lift on a coils sprung Rover is more than enough. If you want more travel you have to fit longer travel shocks with the associated modified mounts, longer springs, then you have all the problems with torn rubber in your bushes from being worked beyond their design limits, longer brake lines, extra stress on uni joints and steering components. Not to mention changed steering geometry.
So the question is it all worth it? Or is it easier to fit a rear diff lock or both front and rear lockers?

    I have a 95 discovery 1.
I got a set of EFS 50mm lift springs a put 245/75R16 BFG mud terains on it and it goes anywere.
Next is a gard mod to give a little bit more space as the tyres just clear them and a rear air locker and that will give me all is needed to go anywere.
Maby a 2 1/2 inch body lift later with an enginer certificate.

The other problem with a big lift can be the stability issue.
Once you go higher, the car will become more unstable at higher speeds, higher centre of gravity etc.

Driving in my mates patrol that has 50mm body and suspension lift with big wheels etc can be scary at times.
I think even he is getting sick of it. Off-road, he does not go as far as mine with a 50mm lift and 245/75's ATR's does.
I do have a secret weapon though, rear locker that he does not know about.
Patrols have limited slip diff but hey, mine works a treat and always makes me laugh.
Go the locker or auto locker or something but big lift= big money and can be more probs than they are worth.

If you are committed to doing it then I would buy a copy of landrover international and check out the big lift kits from the UK they include everything you need to do it properly.

You will still need to get it engineered to be legal and able to insure it
