    tdi is about 14-15psi stock.

i'll throw 20psi as the limit but I wouldnt want to run one there all day.

fit a pyrometer and boost gauge before you start messing

Mine is set up to run 20psi, has been for about a year now. I try to keep it down to around 16-18psi by backing off a bit- only using the full boost for overtaking or getting out of trouble. EGT's run at 690-710, but that's normally only if I hold the pedal hard up against the kickdown spring up a steep hill at 90-100kph fully loaded. It runs around 660 deg under 20psi boost. To be honest, I don't think it really makes that much difference power wise - at least no real "kick in the pants" - whereas the diesel gas I fitted I can feel.

Any more than 18 psi and you're liable to do a head gasket.
There is a new spec head gasket that will cope better with higher than stock pressure, and some tuners give the head bolts 20* more angle to cope with the greater boost pressure.

As Dave said, stock is 1-1.1bar/14.5-15.5psi
