If by "on the way out" you mean it is clicking, then you can swap them left-right and extend their life by quite a bit.

That will also allow you to check their spline size, for when you eventually need them.

However I am pretty sure you can tell which you have from the drive flanges? if it is solid or has a rubber cap??? (or just by undoing 5 bolts!)

The cheapest place to buy some new ones would be ex UK (i.e. buy online and get them posted).

thanks people i shall get onto justin soon and see what he has to say, from what ive heard he is a really nice guy and nos his stuff, so im sure i cant go wrong

If you do order from the UK, don't assume (a cheap one) will be a good quality unit, quality does vary depending on brand, the best will be Hardy Spicer or GKN, bearing in mind the amount of work to change a CV joint you don't want to do it twice.
Aside of that, I had a clicking joint and I have put in the Landrover (genuine) one shot grease, hasn't clicked since, probably was clicking as all the oil had dribbled out past the rusty swivel ball.
