Rear power window only goes up.

The rear power window in my Disco 1(97), only goes up. The roller is fine, the electric motor just works in one dirrection(up).
Any ideas what's wrong, and how to fix it?

Disco 1 rear window motor only goes one way(up).

I tried the other rear doors switch(that works)and it didn't work at all, but the front switch(drivers)would still only operate the rear window in the up dirrection.

Also switched fuses under dash, to no avail.

I had exactly the same problem with my 98 Disco, switch would only operate the window upwards (left hand rear).
I replaced the switch with a brand new one (genuine LR - cost about $13 from the UK), replaced the motor with a second hand one (ebay special - 25 bucks), and also greased the hell out of the window regulator.

And as there was nothing left to replace - of course it worked perfectly.

Might pay to pop the switch out, and check the contacts with a multi meter.

If that works, check for voltage at the motor as the switch is operated.

If there is voltage in both directions, then it must mean that the motor is passed its use by date.

So um, you are telling me nothing?

Thanks, yeah I'll check the switches.

Any chance it's the electronics? Do a search on this forum for rear window controller dry joints.

The electric windows are controlled by the electric window computer, the switches and mechanism are fairly simple and rugged, but the computer after some years will develop a mind of its own, sometimes mine won't go down, sometimes won't go up, leave it a few minutes and its changed its mind, its not been bad enough to worry about so far.

My windows also have a mind of there own. I did some searching a while back and found it is most likely the window ECU. They get dry joints in them after some time and need resoldering. It is located behind the glove box. There was a post telling how to fix it. I haven't got around to doing it myself but will when I get some spare time.
    Cheers, David.
