I guess it is pretty much a given that average for our trucks is around the 10-11ltr mark ... I'm doing another test this week, with a little more less grandpary driving just to see what significant difference there is between driving styles, moreso that I can get an Idea of how expensive it's gonna be if I decide to be a bit heavy footed lol
when you decide to remove the grandpa boots and put on the F1 racer boots remember
while the engine can rev past 3500 RPM there is little point in doing so. when you give it heaps in 2nd and 3rd gear around the 3200rpm mark you'll feel a point where "thrust" drops of dramatically Change up gears just before you hit this and you'll find that the RPMS in the next gear are right smack in the middle of peak torque RPMS. similarly when changing down if your driving it hard change down so that when you hit the next gear the engine is up in the top 3rd of the power curve (somewhere between 2500 and 3000 RPM)
do it right and the tdi can be reasonably quick and still remain economical.Remember though every engine is a little different and you'll need to adapt to it.
as a rough rule
9/100 is good driving being nice to the fuel guage
10-11/100 is about normal depending on the load out
11-13/100 is either lots of city driving or high speed touring (within legal limits) with everything on
13-17/100 is about normal for heavyload/towing
anything over is either max load towing/lots of low range works or driving so agressively you dont deserve to drive a diesel.

Compared to my friends who own a 300tdi this thing is a bloody rocket lol
Thing is I drive it like a diesel should be driven BUT love knowing that I have the power there when needed, oh and I'm talking about on black top driving also lol look out when she is in low range!!! But like I said I bloody love this truck, everything about it.

Thanks for your info blknight :) ... I am gradually adapting to the diesel power range, and have found it to be quite lively ... Though I dont ever intend to set the world on fire with blistering speed, its more learning what the diesel is capable of, makes a world of difference on the roads.
No real point to flogging it. I'd like to maintain high 9's low 10s.
Spanners ... Dude, your truck sounds like an animal, I can only imagine what it'd be like off road, I bet it flattens out the toughest climbs with ease.

What is the D-gas system worth?
i have only had my 300TDi on the road for a month now with mainly city driving plus i tank used mainly on a country trip. i have found keeping it in between 2000 and 3000 RPM is ideal, 2 weeks ago dropped the centre muffler off which gave me a tad more power and torque.
getting 9.42l/100km around town and 8.8 on a trip.
a lot better than my '85 turbo diesel patrol at 13.45l/100km and the disco seems to accelerate quicker!
Re Daves post on rev ranges, a big exhaust helps extend the useful rev range in each gear.
It was the biggest difference I noticed when I built my 3" exhaust system.
Power wasn't hugely increased at all, but the useful rev range was dramatically lengthened.
What its worth? Well thats up to you but it costs around $2k for basic set up minus rebate of course.Quote:

If gas is empty car just drives as it did before or alternatively I can turn On/Off same as I would in a petrol car.

Currently don't have any vids or pics as I am a shocker when it comes to media devices, lol just got this phone down pat with tapatalk, seems I'm better with mechanical than electrical hahaha. Hopeing to get some media up and running soon. I just got the 300tdi about a few weeks ago and started tinkering with it with great out comes, did slot of reading on here and just applyed all the info. Great truck and a great bloke behind the wheel what more can o ask for lololol
