    Blown head gasket - again

Blew a head gasket again, in a major way. The plastic plug on top of the thermostat cracked and blew off, letting the coolant escape and I didn't catch it in time and the motor got hot and - you know the rest.

And yes I did have a low coolant alarm (after last time), but I had disconnected teh buzzer after it malfunctioned 6 months ago and maybe the warning light doesn't work - dunno.

Bit sad. Now I need to find another motor, as I can't be bothered redoing the head. Last time I had to buy a new one (new and improved model) and all up it was about $2,000 for parts only.

I know this will be of no use at all, but you replaced the head once and still had a plastic coolant plug installed??

And you had a warning system but disconnected it???

Yes and no. I put a new plug in. I thought they were supposed to be plastic for some wierd reason??? Obviously not, but why would Land Rover sell it to me then?

I didn't think I disconnected the whole alarm, it was just that the buzzer came on continuously a while ago, when it was obviously not related to the coolant level or even to the sensor switch on top of the radiator. To finish the journey in some sort of peace, I had to take the buzzer out, but I was reasonably sure it was independant of the warning light.

Erik I don't now if you have the same alarm as mine but mine senses air in the water system and howls like crazy until I bleed it and remove all the air.

I realise that you may just be calling it "A low coolant alarm" for convenience sake, but if you have the one I have it senses air in the system and maybe it was howling 6 months ago for a valid reason???

It is'nt really a low coolant alarm.
