TDi Diesel Vs V8 on Gas

    Hi All,

I have a V8 disco 1 and am struggling with the fuel economy.

Would i be better off buying a diesel and selling the V8, or converting the V8 to gas (dual fuel)?
I have my V8 running well and have installed O2 sensors so it is probably the best the economy is going to get.

What would it cost me to convert to gas? and what economy will on get on gas?

    cheers, Steve

do a search, i have uploaded a spreadsheet that allows you to work out lpg vs diesel economy for your self

my rangie on gas is quite a bit cheaper to run than either of my 300tdi or 4bd1 diesels were.

nfi on how much a conversion costs.

If you are mainly driving around the big smoke a V8 on gas will come out on top for running cost, especially if you run the O2 sensors on the gas too. If you are mainly into long bush runs then diesel is best. Fit LPG enhancement to a diesel and you will save around 10% of city running costs, a little less in the bush but it extends your range as well.

The cost of a gas conversion should be from $1500 to $5000 depending on what you get installed tank wise and front end wise, second hand or new.

Hi Steve; Your question on the forum is exactly the question I wish an answer for; have you had any more success in finding answers?

Same here, get 7.5ltrs/100k in highway and 8.5ltrs in City running. Very happy with it. Better power too.

I have both a rangie on LPG gas/dual fuel and a300tdi disco and I will vouch for the V8 on LPG being cheaper to run.

I think for most people its a personal choice.

theres no secret if u want econmy, go deisel.
If you like V8's, enjoy the sound and driving them, then u take a hit in the economy stakes.

The economy on gas will get a little worse, but the running cost when running a V8 on gas is great, you also get extra range!

Go with your inner feelings, you know u want the V8!
