Is it possible for the wire terminal to work lose sometimes but still remain connected to switch?

This has been known to hapen from time to time.
Some starter motor soliniod wires do this too.

Double check the light comes on when the key is turned to "II" and it goes out once the motor is running.

Got to like a simple fix
    Cheers, Kyle

New switch time, please! The switch is faulty and your pressing the terminal on has temoprarily got it working again.
