    D1 300tdi over fueling

    Hey guys

Only had my d1 for less than a month now and when purchased I was told that he got it boosted higher and the fuel turned up from a landrover mech which for the life of me I can't remember who it was. Now not complaining as she bloody flys compared to other d1 300tdi's but I think she's smoking too much. At idle in park, while in drive and stationary and while driving along. Has hard is it to turn down the fueling but keep it boosted at 19psi?

    Thanks in advance

Very simple, the thing that would make the most impact would be the 'smoke screw' - how accurately named!!

its simple to adjust, and you don't have to pull the IP (Injector Pump) to a million bits to get to it. its accessable behind a dust cap located on top of the boost enrichment membrane on the top of the IP.

Behind the cap, there is a locking nut around the screw, 13mm I think it is. the screw you need to adjust uses a torx bit to adjust it.

unlock the locking nut, and wind the screw back. perhaps half, or a full turn. if you are winding it back (unscrewing it) then there will be less fuel (and less heat).

I am curious with the boost and fuel mods, do you know what EGTs (Exhaust Gas Temp) you are getting? winding the fuel up even with stock boost makes a massive difference to power and heat!

ill post up a pic of the IP and the screws shortly.

    G'day David,

Have been doing some readin Myself and know of the screw your talkin about and thank you fir the info. Will play around with it on Sunday and see how we go, actualy thought it might have been more technical but I'll give it a Burl. With the egt temps, mainly been doin hwy driving lately but the gauge sits any where from 200 to 340 depending how I'm driving it. Been out once in the bush ( gotta love it ) it sits around 450 to 560 again depending how i drive. Think I've read some where the max high temp is around the 550 or 600 please anyone correct me if I'm wrong. Really have to get used to all these bloody gauges in this truck lol

    Cheers spanners

the dust cap you need to remove is the bit on the verrrry top (with the red dot on it). its a sleeve that slides into the top. try and rock it out with a small screwdriver rocking it from side to side, sliding it up.. good luck with this, its only thin metal and I completely destroyed mine in the process. heheheh.
perhaps knowing how its sitting in there and how to remove it may help you get it off in one piece, I hope so I wouldn't worry if it gets destroyed though. I don't have one on mine anymore *whistles*

oh one more thing.. make sure you record how many turns you adjust it - so you can return it to how it is set currently if you adjust it too far!

    David.
