Thread: central locking playing up....

    central locking playing up....

having a few dramas with my central locking.

it is VERY intermittent - which makes my untrained self think it would be a transmitter-receiver-wire-solenoid something problem.... (tried new batteries in the remote, its not that. tried both remotes, same same.)

I try to break it up in its usual patterns:

drivers door: locks and unlocks every single time without problems.
    back door: same as above

rear passenger: usually locks and unlocks (say 80% plus)
rear driver: locks about 50% of times, unlocks about 30%

passenger door: unlocks 98%, locks 30% or less

SO.... I will start by taking the door trims off this weekend for dustproofing really, but while I'm there I might as well see if I can get to the bottom of this quite annoying little "feature"

If someone has got a bright idea as to what direction to look - I cant even tell whether I have the stock CL - did they come with immobilisers (D1 '94)?
    - MUCH appreciated!!!

Looking at your avatar, if you have a 1994 D1 then it must be an early 1995MY sold in 1994.

The only 1995MY cars with a factory alarm/remote were the ES models. Google AM3722 to see one.

Your Disco would have had central locking from new but key operated. The drivers door actuator controls all the rest so normally they all work or they all don't work. As you have some working & some not at times, the problem might be in the relevent doors.

If it is an aftermarket kit, you'll need to find out how it is set up. They might have piggy backed another door lock actuator onto the original or they might have done away with the LR parts altogether.

I had once trouble with the same door that is your worst, but my Disco is LHD.
I changed the actuator and the problem was out... for a couple of years...
Now I discovered the nightmare is back: this same actuator letting one time the door unlocked.

I opened the old actuator and it was as new, without signs of wear. It consists of a motor with pinion moving a rack gear. As it doesn't have travel stops, if you keep this actuator supplied with current it can damage the gear teeths.
So, the signal is a pulse in two different polarities (open, close), during a short time.
I suspect that dust and wear affect mechanical performances from the whole mechanism, and the first door showing problems is normally rear right door, because its connection cables are longer than other door's...
But It would be iteresting to adjust time width of the pulses in an easy way in order to tune this...

    Regards

    PD scuse my spelling

    Cheers for that, guys...

it actually is worse when the passenger door gets used too - when its not touched all doors lock fine, but when its opened then it wont lock after its been closed....

as I said very annoying feature...

makes me think it is something with that door, so I'll get in there as soon a sI get time to do so this weekend....

just another thing, is the actuator in the relevant doors or are they in one spot under the steering wheel or so?

    Thanks again!

oh, and Scouse... cant tell whether its an ES model and google doesnt give me any sensible results for AM3722 but I think it is safe to assume its an aftermarket install. hopefully find out soon.

Sorry, I missed an R. Each door has it's own actuator too.

My rear passenger door is the same. However, mine ison the key as the remotes went a long time ago. I'm told the issue with mine is just the spring in the door which is struggling to move the mech.

    An alternative idea?

I had that problem it was the actuator casing, which is in 2 halves had opened slightly thus allowing the little train track inside to move/slip. I tried to fix it but I ended up replacing the actuator
