    Knocking noise

    Hi all,

I have a knocking noise coming from the rear of the car which sounds as if something is loose. When I rock the car, I can hear it as well so I don't think it's anything serious, just annoying but I can't locate it. Any ideas?

Also, how much rock and roll should I have?

    Cheers

I experienced the same sort of thing in a non Landie fourby recently. I swore it was coming from the rear but not so - turned out an auto tranny mount had given up the ghost.

Possibly also the rear end door requires adjustment.

Thanks guys, I've just had the rear shock bushes and a frame joint done, there's not a lot of rebound it just has a lot of movement.

So from that I'm understanding that some D1's don't have sway bars??

That's a bit of a relief. Mine doesn't have front or rear. I was starting to think the previous owner had removed them.

Check the exhaust pipe over the rear diff, climb under and get someone to rock the car and observe and locate the problem, Regards Frank.

Ok, I decided to stop being lazy and get dirty! Looking at the invoice, they didn't do the bushes or a frame joint so I've replaced the top bushes only to find the issue is the bottom one on the drivers side. No probs I think, just undo this bolt like the trusty Haynes manual shows and viola! No! I can't get the nut off because I can't stop the shock turning with it, any ideas anyone?

Also, how easy is the a frame joint to replace (alternative name? As not in the Haynes)

    Cheers guys

Oh and yes I have both sway bars with new rubbers. Did that about 4 months ago
