Urgent remote help

Wow. This is turning out to be tricky.

The RAC said there is no way that integrated alarm/immobilizer can be bypassed.

Discovery Automotives can get me the EKA (Emergency Key Access) code via the VIN, which is nice of them. I still need the instructions out of the owners handbook which tells how to use the code.

I got in touch with the fellow I bought the vehicle from, and he has log books and owners manual. I'm meeting him today or tomorrow for the exchange after which, hopefully back on the road again.

I had a look at the RAVE manual (Aust) for your car but it has a two button fob and basically says - see your dealer.

However the Rave manual (Discovery Export) also has a two button fob listed but it does explain the process of how to unlock the immobiliser via the key when you have the code.

Lets hope the handbook you get has the full process outlined - rather than "see the dealer"

thats odd about the RAC, they got me into mine when the imobiliser key thingy died.
Now I think about it thought the immobiliser may have been an aftermarket they did come out to have a look though and got me on my way

And so the story continues.

It turns out that some 95 Discos don't have an Emergency Key Access code. Guess what? Mine is one of them. :mad:

This is confirmed by:

1. I find a website where you put your VIN in, pay some money, and it comes back with your EKA. No joy.
2. The local dealer say they have no matching EKA for my VIN.
3. I finally got hold of the Owner's Manual and Service History. There is no procedure to use an EKA and no EKA either.

But, it turns out that I can get a new remote for $214 locally.

So, tomorrow I will have it flat bedded over to Wangara and get the new remote programmed.

Surely, nothing else can go wrong...

Are you sure the small black thing is not the micro switch. They have a habit of being detached from the circuit board of D2 key fobs. If it is the micro switch just bridge across it with a piece of metal to get you going or resolder the thing back in place for a permanent fix.

No, it was definitely a small resistor.

All fixed now. It had them stumped initially, but they have now managed to key a new remote to the vehicle.

:(:(:(:( Sorry, I had neglected to PM the wiring colours etc this week has become bedlam:(

Good to hear it is fixed, did you still retain the central locking then? The trouble with the method I have used is that central lock is disabled, but the vehicle will start though.

Yeah, no worries about the PM JC - I was only going to use that as a last resort.

The car is back to original now, and the remote even works from a distance which is great. I just need to fix the spring in the tailgate so that it unlocks with the other doors.

One thing I have learned though, is that when I am going away I am only ever going to lock the car with the key, just in case. :cool:
