    Urgent remote help

    Hi all

I locked my 95 Disco with the remote last night, but when I woke up this morning the remote is broken. I opened it up, and a small black piece fell out, which looks like a small resistor or maybe capacitor. The battery is ok, so it looks like the remote is fubar.

So, I don't particularly care about the remote, except now I cannot start the car. I unlock it with the key, and the alarm goes off, and teh motor won't start.

Does anyone know how to bypass or permanently disable the security system?

    TIA

    Wongdai

Have a read in your driver's handbook and it tells you how to do it but you do need the Emergency Key Access code, which might be in the handbook if no one has removed it. The code can be used in the driver's door lock to disable the alarm ECU.

If you don't have the code you will have to ring a dealer, preferably the one who sold and serviced the car, their stamp should be in the service record.

Hope it goes well for you,

    Cheers Charlie

Unfortunately the vehicle came with no documentation (i.e. handbooks, service records, etc).

Why do people take handbooks out of cars when they sell them?

Try ringing any Land Rover dealer and see if they can assist you; they will need the VIN at least and probably some way of determining that you are the lawful owner of the car before they tell you what the EKA code is - perhaps your registration papers,

No, no, no! Just get it disabled. The Lucas10AS alarm module also controls the central locking as well as the immobilising. It can be deactivated and this is exactly what was done in the Australian Td5 Defenders which have the same unit.

If it is a 1995 build, then should have a single button remote. If so, it isn't a 10AS system and will need replacing in entirety with an aftermarket system as NO remotes are available for them anymore. When the vehicle is new, only 2 remotes are supplied and unlike the 10AS system, you can't add anymore.

If 2 button remote, then it is a 10AS sytem and can have a new remote added and as Derek suggests, can be altered to use only central lock and no immobiliser/ alarm.

You will need to look behind the glovebox to find the green 10AS alarm unit, and read the freq off it to order a remote. It'l be 315MHz or 433MHz. After you get the remote, it'll need somone with a rovacom, nanocom autologic or similar to alter the settings and preogram the remote.

    Good luck

Ooops, I was thinking the 10AS came out with the 95 Disco. 10AS is 96MY onwards.

Sweet. Thanks guys. I don't wanna miss the beach trip next Sunday.

It is a one button remote.

I will give a mobile auto-electrician a ring tomoz and see if they can disable it for me.
