    Vapour build at the moment

ok, here's my situation, my 93 disco with 3.5 V8 is gutless, it is so detrimental that it makes me want to get rid of it, but i cant do that, i love my disco however, i dont enjoy driving it as much as i should

I suspect the cam and lifters are worn but i refuse to spend any more money on an engine with such little potential

I am trying to plan a driveline to put into it that gives both decent power and torque, driveability, and can be pushed on occasion without worrying about breaking diffs etc, at the moment whenever im out wheeling in the back of my mind is the constant threat of a busted rear diff due to my slightly larger tyres (235/85)

I am not a purist, and my disco is far from a concourse example, and is no longer my daily driver, so here goes:

    my current plan is:
    350 Chev (megasquirted)
Turbo 350 or 400 automatic transmission (fully manualised)
    LT230 transfer case
    GQ Patrol front diff
    80 Series Landcruiser Rear diff

My disco is currently megasquirted, and has a LPG vapour injection system, both of which will swap over to the Chev v8 rather easily

the nissan and toyota diffs will allow me to run larger tyres and i think the brakes are larger also

if this was to go ahead, it would be happening over the next 12 months or so, not overnight

So does anyone have any advice? or have been in a similar situation before?

If you are going to swap engines why go for a Chev 350, they are crap and only good for boat anchors, go for a 5 litre fuel injected Ford Windsor, parts are everywhere and cheap, smaller and lighter and streets ahead of any Chev, Regards Frank.

There are adaptors to mate Ford engines to L/R gearboxes, Google is good, Regards Frank.

yeah, im not interested in using land rover gearboxes behind something so powerful, kinda defeats the purpose

The L/R ZF Auto will handle the torque a hell of a lot of the rock crawler mob use them with no problem, or there is the Ford C4 which you can get adapters for, good luck, Regards Frank.

ok, i need to clarify my needs a bit, i need it to be damn near bulletproof, and parts should be cheap, the chev v8 is one of the most common on the planet, hence parts are rather cheap as are upgrade bits, same goes for the turbo 350/400 transmissions, much much cheaper to build strong than an eqivalent ZF tansmission, i dont even want to think what a reverse full manual valve body will be worth for a ZF, if it even exists, things like that
