ALL STARTER MOTORS AINT THE SAME SAM

I have just had to replace the starter motor in my D1.

The old one absolutely crapped its self. It was a UniPoint brand (made in the darkest jungle in Asia somewhere)

It has been in my disco for about 2 years and when it was working it turned over the V8 quite fast.

Upon pullingt it apart, I noted it had cracked & broken the inner plastic housing, bits of plastic dropped into the gears, the gears jumped out of position and buckled a plate, then because the shaft can't turn the armature then cooked its self. Nothing left to salvage.

So to sum up, if you are shopping for a new starter motor, give the UniPoint brand a miss. Why? Because the inner housing is plastic and cannot cope if the flywheel gives the starter motor gear a wack while trying to start.

I have now fitted a Bosch unit. Bit dearer but better quality.

    Cheers

I have a mental problem. I have a split personality: I new I should have listened to my other half.

True, but worth reading anyway. He sells new Bosch ones too, but dearer.

I have a dead generic starter I pulled out of a customer's D1 the other day, must see what gave out on it. Told the customer to get a good used Bosch one off TRS. Seems to be going well.

    GO BOSCH

I price around for a starter motor

The Ah -saw one from Trywan was about $270.00.
The Prince of Darkness's cousin from Italy was $325.00

The Bosch was $390.00 from Repco and with a hittle help from my son's discount card I got it for $334.00. All including GST.

Now when I am starting my disco it sounds like a real V8 wewewewe.
