    Question Replacing roof lining?

Hello, I am thinking of buying a 1998 Landrover Discovery, its the 3-9 litre V8 with a 5 speed manual gearbox, Its faultless on the outside but really dirty on the inside ( a smokers car I think ) if i do go ahead and purchase it I will remove all carpet / seats and steam clean them, only thing the roof is sagged as well so i was wondering if its possible to remove it to be cleaned then put back up - or would it be easier to replace it, the roof lining is a grey cloth, has any-one replaced there roof lining in a Land Rover Discovery before as I would like to get a idea of costs to replace it before I go ahead and buy this Land Rover, Thanks .

You ain't way out West ... Perth .. Now that's West

Roof linings are very easy to replace ... just follow your nose / Just need to know a couple of tricks to make life easy

You take down the lining and toss the cloth in the bin / Don't even bother to reglue it / replace with new

    Cheers

I had the lining in my Rangie replaced for $110 earlier this year. Admittedly, I removed and refitted it.

    I just did a D1 roof lining last weekend ... 1hr to strip / 1hr to replace

    No sunroofs tho

With the roof liner out .. It's a good time to pull out the Alphine windows and (metal built) mig weld those rust holes that form at the bottom lip

    That took me about 4hrs

I don't suppose some man money (beer economy) in the new year sometime would see you being able to help me with this?

I'd really love to patch up those rust holes but it's beyond my skill level.

    Sorry ...no can do ....

If you have the tools .. I can show you ... but my time is cut out trying to keep up with my own projects

I have access to a Panel shop to do my own repairs ........ I can give you the phone number via PM ..... The Panel shop is Very good ...

Be aware tho ... Metal building the rust holes will involve having to paint the whole roof ...as the clear coat of the factory paint job is usually knackered ... That takes more time .... But the $ involved will be worth it, if your going to keep the car

Question Lookin at 2 Landrovers this week .................

Can any-one tell me where to get a new roof lining for a 98 Landrover in Sydney ?? With the 3-9 liter V8 & 5 speed manual how many KM's would i get to a full tank sitting on 100-110kph - as a family member has told me they are very thirsty, is this true ? Is there anything I need to look out for with this model, Thanks Jamie.

You might want to start a new thread on what to look for in buying second hand Disco.
Mechanics is straight forward. Bodywork rust can usually be found under the rear carpet. Check footwells too since it can be water trap for the A/C overflow.
FYI. A standard car with a full tank should give around 400km + on highway cruising.
